Why source transparency matters

Air-quality numbers can come from regulatory monitors, research networks, satellite-informed models, forecasts or derived indices. These sources are not interchangeable. A useful air-quality service should identify the source, time period, units, methodology and whether the value is measured or modelled.

WHO provides health-focused global guidance; EPA/AirNow documents the U.S. AQI; the European Environment Agency publishes the European Air Quality Index; OpenAQ provides access to publicly available monitoring data; and Copernicus CAMS provides atmospheric analyses and forecasts. These resources are linked directly from this site so readers can verify important information at the originating source.
