Among all bedding options you can score on the market, a quality pair of bed sheets is quite unmatched.

Yet, not all sheets were created equal. The worst feeling — possibly, ever – is to wake up in the middle of the night sweating, tossing and turning and all-around feeling uncomfortable. So, a pair of cooling sheets may be your next best purchase.

One of the best types for breathability is the trusted bamboo sheets. While a bit more expensive than your traditional bundle-and-save option from Amazon, they’re worth the investment, especially if you’re a hot sleeper.

“Bamboo sheets are just what they sound like — sheets woven using fibers from treated bamboo fibers,” David Rubin, sleep expert and director of product testing at Sleep Doctor, told the New York Post. “The resulting fibers are used to make textiles that are moisture wicking and breathable.”

Bamboo sheets are usually very light like linen, but unlike linen they have a smooth, silky feel. “Bamboo and cotton are both breathable, but cotton can be thicker (especially percale) and have more of a matte finish,” Rubin added.

You can wash bamboo sheets just like you would cotton sheets, and they won’t shrink, either. “I do recommend reading manufacturer instructions, as things like water and dryer temperature can lead to faster deterioration,” he noted.

Ahead, the Post Wanted team tested the best bamboo sheets money can buy right now. That’s right — we woke up refreshed, jotted down some review-style notes and collaborated to create this guide.

After all, wouldn’t you rather take shopping advice from a well-versed team who tried the sheets? We know the struggle of buying bedding on the blind all too well.

Cozy Earth

Pros:

  • Ideal balance of breathability and softness
  • Generous amount of shades to choose from
  • Oversized fit with a gentle drape, so it’s easy to secure the fitted sheet to your mattress

Cons:

  • Price point may be unreachable for some

I’ve been sleeping on the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set for years now and they’re some of my favorites to end the evening with. They actually make me *excited* for bedtime and reach the caliber of luxury hotel-grade sheets. What’s better than that?

I’ve tried an assortment of cooling sheets and others, but the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set is a winner for a few reasons. For one, it’s both breathable without compromising softness. The worst feeling is for a sheet set to be airy but feeling like paper. Cozy Earth has the epitome of a good sheet balance, which is why they’re worth the investment.

Additionally, they hold up well in the wash and your traditional washer dryer cycle can combat tough stains, should any be present on your sheet set. There are quite a few shades to choose from as well and, because our team is such a big fan of the brand, you’ll also want to explore its marshmallow-soft loungewear options.

Quince Organic Viscose Bamboo Sheet Set
Quince

Pros:

  • Organic and hypoallergenic
  • Budget-friendly
  • Cool to the touch — good for hot sleepers

“I hate to admit this (after all, I’m a commerce editor), but I’ve always cheaped out when it came to sheets,” Holly Coley, commerce updates editor, shared after testing the sheets for more than a month. “Let’s get real, some of them — especially the nice ones — are expensive, and I have other things I’d rather spend my money on.”

What made Coley excited about trying the Organic Bamboo Viscose Sheets from Quince is that she knew if she loved them, she could work adding another set or two into my budget. “They’re under $100, which, in my opinion, is reasonable,” she said. “More importantly (and impressively), they’re high quality.”

The set she received came in the color sand and looked exactly as it appeared on Quince’s site. The material is silky, giving her bed a luxurious look and feel as well. “It took me a minute to figure out which side of the fitted sheet went where but once I did, it slid easily,” Coley added. “There were a few wrinkles, which is typical with this material, but it looked gorgeous all the same.”

The best part? How cool the sheets feel, even after hours of laying on them. “And when I think about them also being organic…insert mind blown emoji,” Coley concludes.

LUXOME Luxury Sheet Set
LUXOME

Pros:

  • Moisture-wicking
  • Thermal regulating
  • Incredibly deep pockets
  • Buttery, silky smooth texture stays cool-to-the-touch

Cons:

  • Price point may be unreachable for some
  • Must follow care instructions for washing — keep it cool and low for best results

In the words of our senior commerce SEO manager Meaghan Roche, “these are truly the best sheets I’ve ever slept on, and I’m not exaggerating.”

Roche is a hot sleeper and has tested out several fabrics in search of a cooler night’s sleep. “Before trying LUXOME’s bamboo sheets, I had only ever settled for sheets that maybe didn’t make me sweat, but weren’t helping either,” she said. “LUXOME’s sheets are 100% Viscose from Bamboo — rather than a cheap blend — and this makes all the difference in keeping the fabric cool and breathable.”

Right out of the package, Roche had a good feeling about these sheets. “Holding them in my arms I could tell they felt different, and so luxe (sorry, I had to),” she offered. “I didn’t want to get my hopes up since sometimes after washing a new sheet set, they just aren’t the same. But when I washed this LUXOME set, following the site’s exact care directions, I found that they still felt just as cool and luxurious.”

Not only that, but when she put the fresh sheets on my bed, she was delighted to find the extra-deep pockets making it so easy to make the bed, and the flat sheet seemed extra long and wide, even on her king bed; anyone with a partner knows this is a major plus.

“Most importantly, these sheets did not disappoint once I had the opportunity to sleep on them,” Roche added. “The bamboo fabric is designed to be naturally thermal-regulating, which is a blessing for a hot sleeper like myself. The silky, cool-to-the-touch feel helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. Every night I look forward to getting into bed and having another great night’s sleep thanks to these sheets.”

Forget hotel sheets — these are simply the best splurge and worth every penny.

Cariloha Resort Bamboo-Viscose Bed Sheets
Cariloha

Pros:

  • Most luscious, soft sheets
  • Cooling and soft, and especially ideal for sleepers who aren’t too hot of sleepers
  • Generous shade range to choose from

Cons:

  • Price point may be unreachable for some
  • Sellout risk

The Cariloha Resort Bamboo-Viscose Bed Sheets are the epitome of resort-grade sheets. From unboxing them from its package, the first thing I thought was, “wow, these are soft.”

Truthfully, you’ll have to wash them, as the smell is a bit potent (happens with the majority of bedding you’ll unbox). However, this isn’t a dealbreaker and was expected. What I love most about them is their premium sateen finish. So, in essence, they’re soft, silky and a good “Goldilocks” temperature: not too hot, not too cold.

Depending on your bed size, inventory may be limited. They hold up well in the wash as well and are moisture-wicking, even on extremely hot days. Plus, they’re sustainable, stemming from the brand’s green impact.

Nest Bedding Bamboo Sheet Set + Pillowcases
Nest Bedding

Pros:

  • Budget-friendly price point, so appealing to most shoppers
  • Antimicrobial, so fitting for sensitive skin
  • Excellent temperature control

Cons:

  • Not as simple to fit over mattress, though not a dealbreaker

Anyone seeking temperature control should turn to this set from Nest Bedding, according to commerce writer/reporter Miska Salemann.

“These sheets are far lighter and softer than ordinary cotton sheets, and you can actually feel they’re cool to the touch,” she said. “The AC in my apartment is meager at best, and I tend to run warm, but these sheets have kept me at an ideal temperature all night long.”

Salemann sent them through the wash a few times since she started using them and hasn’t noticed any stains or shrinkage. “You would never guess these are under $100,” she added. “They have a luxury feel and will leave you waking up refreshed.”

How we tested

Best Bamboo Sheets We Reviewed
Pictured: The Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set. Victoria Giardina

After testing bamboo sheets for as short as two weeks and as much as three years, the Post Wanted team kept the following criteria in mind while testing:

  • Material: While all of the above sheets are bamboo, I kept the feel in mind while testing to discern which happened to be the most cooling, the most softest, etc.
  • Breathability: Because weather and humidity levels can fluctuate, the best indicator of if a bed sheet is *actually* cooling or not is how the particular bedding feels upon first lie-down. If my skin felt cool-to-the-touch instantaneously, that was a green checkmark in that brand’s favor.
  • Moisture-wicking properties: While I’m a hot sleeper, I’m not an ultra-sweaty sleeper. However, good cooling sheets shouldn’t leave you waking up in the middle of the night, encouraging you to change your clothing to something more lightweight. I noted if any sheets felt ‘stuffy’ over each individual testing period.
  • Value: Bamboo sheets can cost a pretty penny, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t affordable or more fairly priced options on the market. After testing each sheet set, I asked myself ‘is this really worth the price?‘ and formulated pros and cons for each brand that I reviewed.
